So it’s Friday, the end of our work week. Or, is this just the beginning? ūüėČ

For most, Friday unfortunately represents the end of tedious and painful week. A time to rest, relax, and recover from the emotional drain of a day job.

But what about your dreams? Remember those? The things that got you¬†excited and rev’d up to go harder and longer than anyone else? ¬†Not the stuff you had to do, but the stuff you loved to do. Your passion.

So what happened?

Well, there are countless reasons of how and why we got distracted, broken, and derailed in life, but hey, it’s not too late- You can still live your dreams!

Yes, we have to be responsible, provide for our families, take care of business, and keep things moving forward financially, but we also have to LIVE and not just exist to get through another day. If we are simply existing and going through the motions of life as an empty shell, what example are we setting for our spouses, children, friends, family, colleges, and community? Most importantly, the person you have to face in the mirror everyday?

Remember, we need to live our lives like the airline industry has been telling us for years, “Put on our own oxygen mask first, then help the others around us with theirs.” You see, if we are deprived of what we need (in this illustration oxygen), then we will perish and be no good to anyone else. However, if we take care of our basic needs first, then we have the ability to help those around us.

So what do we do?

Well, that’s answer and solution is different for every individual/situation and why we search our own souls, seek Godly counsel, and work with professional coaches who keep us focused, inspired, and accountable on the way.

To start, here is a loose outline of how to get you back on track again and living your dream:

  1. Pray. Pray for wisdom and a clear vision of what your purpose is in life.
  2. Spend time with God. Reading the bible (God speaking to us) and in prayer (us speaking to God).
  3. Make a Plan. Where are you now? Where do you want to be? When do you want to be there? How are you going to transition from where you are now, point A, to achieving your vision and dreams, point B?
  4. Work the Plan.¬†Yes, you have a busy life and many responsibilities, but if you want to live your dreams, and more importantly, teach your children and others to do likewise, you need to start moving forward. No excuses. Make the time to work the plan. Even if all you have is 30 minutes a week- do it! Set a schedule for your life, stick to it, and when it comes to that growth and personal development time- be there! ¬†When it’s family time- be there! When it’s time to go to your day job- be there! And when it’s time for you-¬†Be There! Half-in is fully out. Commit and do!
  5. Fine Tune Along the Way.¬† Don’t obsess about getting things “perfect” the first time around. Do your best in all that you do, but realize, there is no such thing as “perfect”. There can always be “better”, but “better” keeps you from making progress so just¬†DO.¬†Along the way mark down on a note pad somewhere the things you want to change next time, but don’t go back right now and get weighed down in the details. Keep moving forward and before you know it, you’ll be there.
  6. Enjoy Your Success!¬†If you stick to a plan, even an average one, you typically get to your destination. So take time to thank God, celebrate accordingly with those who helped you along the way, and feel good about getting there. Next? Set a new goal to achieve and don’t forget about helping others achieve theirs!

BIG IMPORTANT POINT TO REMEMBER: You don’t have to quit your day job to do this. Keep that as a steady stream of income and work on your dream late nights, early mornings, weekends/week-begins :-), whenever you can without neglecting your other responsibilities (primarily your family). Then, as you move closer to your dream and income starts to come in you can transition out of your day job and into your dream job. A great book on this topic¬†written by a friend of mine is Kary Oberbrunner’s¬†Day Job to Dream Job (see link below for more details).

Thanks for spending these last few moments with us. We hope that you not only enjoyed reading the article, but it also inspires you to stop living someone elses life and start Living Your dreams.

So starting today, Friday, I encourage you to take some time tonight and begin to write down your dream (yes, on paper). Then, work towards achieving it one step at a time. Remember, something is better than nothing, and taking even small steps towards your goal each week just brings you that much closer to realizing it. Step by step, week by week, through your diligent perseverance you will soon reach your goals. Best yet? By achieving them through a balanced life approach you will be surrounded by those you love most at the finish line!

Enjoy your success!
